Plasma Technology

Plasma Technology is a new revolutionary non-surgical method of lesion removal and skin tightening treatment that is a highly effective, remarkable alternative to surgery.

Anaesthetic: Local anaesthetic

Return to work: 5 days

Procedure time: 60 mins

Duration of results: 2 to 3 years

Treatment: One to two, 2 weeks apart

Recovery Time: 7 to 10 days

Plasma Technology offers a real and effective alternative to suitable, selected patients who would like to avoid costly and risky procedures such as liquid nitrogen / dry ice, or Blepharoplasty.

The patient demand for faster treatments with minimum downtime and reliable results are increasing every year. Plasma Technology involves the use of plasma that is formed through the ionisation of atmospheric gas, which then works to stimulate the contraction, shortening and tightening of skin fibres. This results in the reduction of the skin surface.

Plasma Technology can treat an array of aesthetic concerns.  Excess skin on the eyelid is a very common patient complaint.  Plasma Technology allows the sculpting of the upper eyelid area and makes individualisation of treatments possible. It also makes it easy to target the most hidden areas to achieve best results.

This technology is also used for mole and skin tag removal, xanthelasma, acne scarring and smoker’s lines.  As Plasma Technology does not directly touch the skin, using the device for aesthetic concerns significantly reduces the risk of complications occurring, like infection or scarring.

How does Plasma Technology work?

During the procedure, a tiny plasma flash, also known as an electrical arc, is being discharged from the tip of the Plasma Technology handpiece. The tool itself never touches the skin, however the plasma flash creates a tiny dot upon contact. There is no cut or blood. This innovative technology uses a sublimation process, turning solid directly to gas to tighten tissue. Targeted tissue sublimate, causing no damage to surrounding areas or deeper skin layers. Further points are applied creating a symmetrical grid over the treatment area.  Effects are noticeable right away. The instant contraction and tightening of skin fibres is a key benefit which explains its use in scar management and even non-surgical face/neck/body lifts. Full results become visible after 2-4 weeks.

Is Plasma Technology safe?

Yes, it is very safe. Our doctors are experienced in the use of this device.  Your suitability to this treatment will be assessed together with your medical history.  You will have plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

What are the side effects?

Although safe, there are some expected side effects which will last for approximately 5-7 days in most patients. Immediately after treatment the treated area will be quite red and mildly swollen. Mild crusting or discoloration will be seen in the treated area. Swelling may intensify over the following few hours and may last for 2-3 days. The bruising or discoloration should resolve within 5-7 days. Camouflage or liquid foundation may be applied the following day. You will be provided with aftercare information to help reduce the swelling and discomfort. Results are seen instantly after the treatment, although this gradually improves over the course of the following 2-4 weeks.

How long will the results last?

Total lesion removal is typical in one or two sessions. For skin tightening, the treatment stimulates instant contraction and shortening of skin fibres and this process continues to take effect over the next 2-4 weeks. The effect of the treatment depends on the number of treatments and your ageing process, but typically may last a few years. You will age as you would otherwise and your skin will continue to lengthen and relax as part of the ageing process. We recommend a repeat treatment 12 months after the initial procedure.

During the Treatment

Before your treatment you will be provided with a detailed consent form. You will be asked to read and sign this prior to your having your treatment.

You will have plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you may still have regarding the treatment.

Before starting the treatment, your skin will be cleansed and a topical anaesthetic cream will be applied. For lesions, local anaesthetic is injected into treatment area. With skin tightening, you will then be allowed to relax for 20 minutes while the topical anaesthetic cream starts to work.  The procedure is virtually painless, only mild discomfort and heat is experienced on treated sites. The effects are immediate and may include swelling and redness of the treated area for 2-3 days. The healing process will include crusting (which should be left to fall away naturally) over the course of about a week. Makeup can be applied as cover where needed. The results are instant and improve over the next 2-4 weeks. You may wish to have further treatments to get better results. Should you wish to have second (or very occasionally a third) treatment, this should be carried out at 6-8 weekly intervals.

You will be provided with written a post-treatment advice sheets which includes the following:

Post-treatment Care:

  • Avoid applying any cosmetics until the following morning
  • Avoid all direct sources of heat i.e. sun, UV radiation, saunas etc. for two weeks

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for the next 2 days
