MicroNeedling
Microneedling is a very natural and safe way to restore your skin health under the supervision of our highly trained and experienced staff. We are proud to have received training by internationally renowned micro-needling expert Dr Andrew Christie as well as Skin Rejuvenation Technologies.
A Microneedling pen uses multiple needles that vertically pierce the skin and create thousands of micro-injuries.
These micro-injuries to the skin encourage and harness the power of the body’s innate ability to re-grow and repair itself naturally.
Microneedling has been proven to enhance skin rejuvenation and is far safer for the patients with faster recovery then other traditional skin treatments.
The automatic vibrating function of the microneedling pen increases the effectiveness of skin treatments by increasing absorption of products, while reducing pain and discomfort.
Microneedling is just as effective as ablative treatments such as Fraxel, IPL, Laser Resurfacing, and Chemical Peels.
The most amazing benefit is that microneedling’s cost is a fraction of the leading alternatives.
Microneedling enhances penetration of skin-altering ingredients and at Skinlogic, we love the results when we combine it with platelet rich plasma and topical growth factors from AQ Skin Solutions.
Rejuvenate your skin with micro-needling
As we grow old, our skin ages and becomes loose and less elastic. The main reason for this is the reduction in fibroblast cells, which are building blocks of collagen proteins that help keep our cells strong and connected. Ageing results in wrinkles and sagging, which makes our skin appear very dull — but there is a way to combat this process through micro-needling.
Obviously, we can’t stop ageing; but we can definitely slow that process down. Dermapen™’s goal is to give everyone a chance to look healthier and feel better as we age. Micro-needling is also known as collagen induction therapy, which is a safe and chemical-free method to trigger new collagen production.
What is micro-needling?
Micro-needling therapy is a very simple procedure that uses a hand-controlled device with tiny, shallow needles to puncture your outer layer of skin to create a controlled skin injury. This damage to the skin will stimulate your body to produce new collagen and elastin. The freshly produced collagen will rejuvenate your skin by filling in fine lines, resulting in an overall improvement in the texture and tightness of your skin by removing the wrinkles, scars and stretch marks that can make you look younger as you age.
Additionally, micro-needling is not restricted to the face. It can be used on many other body parts, such as arms, legs, neck, back, hands and abdomen.
One micro-needling session generally takes 60 minutes. At first, your skin will appear a little bit red — similar to a light sunburn, but your skin will return to normal in a couple of days. The natural growth of collagen will not happen instantly; it takes place over weeks and months. This treatment is not designed to be an “instant fix,” but is intended to improve the health of your skin in the long term.
How many treatments does one need?
The number of treatments is predicated on two things: the first being the results you want to achieve, and the second being which part of the body treatment is being performed on. For wrinkles or stretch marks, depending on the severity, you may need 4 to 8 micro-needling treatments to achieve optimal results.
Please note that all treatments are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to ensure the health and safety of your skin. The risks involved in micro-needling treatments are minimal. After a treatment, dry skin or red discoloration may occur, which will typically subside within a week.
What is Platelet Rich Plasma and why combine it with micro-needling?
Known to some as the “Vampire Facelift™”. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) delivers amazing results when combined with micro-needling. Some of your blood will be drawn in 2 to 3 tubes by the practitioner and placed in a centrifuge to spin off the red blood cells. While the plasma is getting ready, the practitioner will prepare your skin for your treatment. Plasma is rich in growth factors that stimulate healing and an array of skin processes like collagen formation. Micro-needling allows for the plasma to be delivered right at the target site where needed. A match made in heaven.
What skin conditions can be treated with micro-needling?
Wrinkles
Stretch marks
Scars
Acne scarring
Skin tone
Fine lines
Loose skin
Large pores
Discoloration
Regardless of your skin colour or type, micro-needling is the best treatment you can have to have to make your skin look fresh and younger.
Who is not suitable for Micro-needling?
If you have taken Roaccutane in the last 6 months, have infection in the area to be treated, are pregnant or are known with abnormal wound healing, you will not be suitable for treatment.
When will I begin to see the results?
After Micro-Needling your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface in the dermis. This takes time as new collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated and the blood supply is enhanced. It can take 6-8 weeks before any signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural long lasting enhancement.
Pre-treatment care:
Prior to your Micro-needling you may be advised to use specific skin care, depending on your skin’s condition. Specific skin care is designed to reduce pigmentation and improve the results. It may also reduce the healing time. The creams usually include one or more of the following: Retinoic acid (vit A), AHA or Hydroquinone (for dark skinned patients).
Patients who suffer from cold sores will be advised to take antiviral medication.
Post-treatment care:
- DO NOT EXPOSE YOURSELF TO THE SUN
After you have undergone your micro-needling procedure, stay out of the sun and do not apply any sunscreen, due to the toxins that may be contained in the lotion. Post procedure, the skin channels are completely open, and any toxins contained in topical applicants may be harmful to you. - DO NOT USE ANY “ACTIVE INGREDIENT” SKIN PRODUCTS
Post procedure, avoid any skin care product that has active ingredients. These commonly include things like Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Retinol and other similar agents. The skin will be highly sensitive and these products will only irritate it further. - USE COLLAGEN STIMULATING PEPTIDES
As micro-needling serves to stimulate the production of collagen, the skin needs higher amounts of collagen than normal to recover optimally. Collagen Stimulating Peptides assist in that process, further aiding in the stimulation of collagen production. - AVOID THE USE OF MAKEUP AFTER TREATMENT
It is imperative that you let your skin “breathe” and recover for 24 hours after the procedure. The skin channels are open, and using a makeup brush can penetrate the pores, especially if they are very thin, causing further irritation. Using a makeup brush that has been used before can contaminate the skin and, consequently, lead to infections. Wait 24 to 48 hours before you apply face makeup to give your skin the necessary recovery time. - USE A COOLING FACE MASK
After you have undergone micro-needling, you may experience some skin inflammation or redness. Using a cooling mask will help reduce the inflammation or redness of the skin, giving you more comfort. - USE AN ANTIOXIDANT SERUM
Antioxidant serums have properties that assist in healing the skin. Serums assist in soothing the skin and further reduce irritation. - AVOID SWEATING
As you sweat the pores of your skin will reopen, and the bacteria on your skin may enter the skin punctures. This can lead to either a reaction or infection. - DRINK WATER
It is important to stay hydrated before and after your procedure to help your skin heal and rejuvenate faster.

During the Treatment
Before your treatment you will be provided with a detailed consent form. You will be asked to read and sign this prior to having your treatment.
You will have plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you may still have regarding the treatment.
Your practitioner will cleanse and exfoliate the area to be treated. If necessary, topical anaesthetic will be applied. At Skinlogic, we encourage our patients to omit the topical anaesthetic since it causes vasoconstriction and thus impair an optimal healing cascade. However, your well-being and comfort is very important to us, so the option of topical anaesthetic is always available. Depending on the treatment depth, most patients report feeling just the slight vibration of the Dermapen™ during the procedure, with mild discomfort, if any.
The skin is disinfected prior to the procedure. Specialised serums containing hyaluronic acid for instance or platelet rich plasma will be applied to provide slip and comfort for the procedure, and for the skin-enhancing ingredients to be delivered at the target site.
Your practitioner will adjust the needle depth according to your indications and needs during the treatment. This part of the procedure is over quite quickly – within 30 minutes.
After the procedure, the skin is calmed with the application of specialized products to provide comfort, enhance your treatment and aid recovery. You will be asked NOT to wash your face until the next morning.
