Overview
Information
Process

Dermaplaning is a painless process that leaves the skin instantly smoother, more radiant and perfectly primed for a facial or peel.

Skin is left rejuvenated, smooth and radiant. It improves overall complexion and texture as well as reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  It is ideal for treating hyperpigmentation and photo damage.

Dermaplaning can remove the impurities, hair, wrinkles and dark spots found on your skin. An instant improvement in the texture and tone of your skin is visible. The long term effects include an increase in cell turnover, fewer wrinkles and dark spots, reduction of acne scarring and the removal of fine facial hair.

What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a quick, noninvasive, painless procedure in which surface dead skin cells are manually scraped away. Dermaplaning requires absolutely no recovery time. It increases cellular turnover, smooths and softens skin, and provides immediate results. This procedure is a very effective exfoliating procedure because it basically tricks the body into thinking it has an injury and needs to heal itself, immediately producing healthier, plump skin cells. Dermaplaning can be used on all skin colours. As an extra bonus, Dermaplaning removes the fine vellus hair on the face. This is important because this excess “peach fuzz” can trap oil and dirt which can lead to other problems with your skin. It also causes facial cleansers to be less effective. Once you scrape away the dirt, oil and dead skin cells, facial products and treatments are much more effective because they can penetrate the skin more easily.

How is dermaplaning performed?

After cleansing, toning and degreasing the face, your skin care specialist will gently scrape away the surface layer of dirt, oil and dead skin cells with a sterile surgical scalpel. Each area of the face is carefully scraped until properly “cleaned”. After the procedure, a chemical peel may be applied for further exfoliation, evening of skin tone and smoothing out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Extractions of any pustules and blackheads are then done after the peel is neutralised. Lastly, special clinical products designed especially for your skin type and concerns, as well as UV protection, will be applied. You will not leave with red or irritated skin, and you are free to reapply makeup at any time.

Will my hair grow back dark, thicker or faster?

No, dermaplaning will not cause the vellus hair on your face to grow back any darker, thicker or faster because the procedure does not trigger hair follicles. The hair will return just as it is, usually in about two to four weeks.

Who is the best candidate for dermaplaning?

Anyone who desires smoother, softer, healthier, more radiant skin. However, patients with active acne are not candidates for Dermaplaning due to the risk of spreading bacteria.

Does dermaplaning hurt?

No. Dermaplaning is a painless procedure without any discomfort at all.

How long does the procedure take?

Dermaplaning is a quick, effective procedure that normally takes 45 minutes to complete. It is recommended that patients space treatments approximately two to four weeks apart for the best results.

Is there any down time?

No, there is absolutely no recovery or downtime with this treatment.

During the Treatment

Before your treatment you will be provided with a detailed consent form. You will be asked to read and sign this prior to having your treatment.

You will have plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you may still have regarding the treatment.

Your practitioner will cleanse the area to be treated.  The dermaplaning procedure will commence. Thereafter, depending on the peel strength, most patients report feeling just mild discomfort and a tingling/prickling/burning sensation. This part of the procedure is over quite quickly – within 5-10 minutes.

After the procedure, the skin is calmed with the application of specialized products to provide comfort, enhance your treatment and aid recovery.
