Process

As we get older, we grow richer in experience and confidence, but there is one thing we may lose: a youthful look to our skin. Then, what you see on the outside may not live up to the vibrant person you are on the inside.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin, which normally provides elasticity and resilience.

With age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases leading to deeper and more static lines. Static lines are the lines (and sometimes folds) you see when your face is still. Dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid are a popular choice to treat static lines and wrinkles as they plump up the skin, replacing volume that has been lost.

Dermal fillers are best used to:
Smooth the lines around your mouth and nose
Enhance the size and shape of your lips
Reduce crow’s feet
Reduce laugh lines
Fill out your cheeks
Around the Mouth

Over time, volume in the lips can become depleted, leaving a thinner, flatter appearance. Wrinkles and fine lines can compromise the smooth look of lips, and the vermillion borders and Cupid’s bow may become less defined. Around the mouth, the area between the upper lip and nose can become flattened, and the corners of the mouth may turn downward, creating a tired, aged appearance. Dermal fillers can help fight the signs of ageing, by addressing the lip’s texture and smoothness and filling the lines and wrinkles caused by smoking and pursing your lips over time.

Facial filler treatments can gently ease away signs of ageing or subtly enhance what nature has given you. There are filler formulations for every area of the face, and after a consultation with your doctor, the treatment can make the most of your best features and produce results that are highly natural looking.

Your face is one of your most precious assets, it’s the way the world sees you and how you express yourself; every detail adds to your unique personality. Talk to us to find out how fillers can help you achieve the natural look you’ll love.

At Skinlogic, only the best quality fillers are used. Our filler products of choice are Juvederm and Teosyal, however, we aim to keep ahead with the latest advances in aesthetic medicine and may stock other brands from time to time as well.

What are Juvederm facial fillers?

Juvederm has been chosen by millions worldwide. It is trusted to enhance natural facial features. Juvederm’s unrivalled scientific technology has enabled it to create a hyaluronic acid gel with exceptionally smooth consistency. This means that Juvederm flows easily into the skin for a natural look and feel. Juvederm injectables are a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment, so recovery time is short and you will be able to continue your normal life with little disruption. The results are proven to last between 1-2 years.

How does Juvederm work?

Juvederm is a range of hyaluronic acid facial fillers, and each smooth gel formulation addresses a specific and unique issue. The gel is injected under the skin, into the dermis, by your doctor using an ultra-fine needle. The gel fills lines and wrinkles and adds subtle volume. The hyaluronic acid within the gel retains moisture. Depending on the treatment and product, results can last up to 18 months. Juvederm is also formulated with lidocaine, and anesthetic with makes the treatment more comfortable. Many moisturizers contain hyaluronic acid, but facial fillers containing hyaluronic acid, like Juvederm, are the only way to replenish the hyaluronic acid deep within the skin.

Is the treatment permanent?

No. The effects of the treatment will wear off over time.  Most treatments last between 6-9 months.  However, treatments to some areas, particularly the lips, can wear off more quickly because of the level of natural movement in the area.  Over time, the filler will be absorbed naturally by the body.  If the treatment is not repeated, the treated area will return to its natural appearance.

Some patients find that a number of treatments are required to achieve the best results.  A combination of dermal fillers and BOTOX® can be a particularly effective combination because BOTOX® maximises the impact of the fillers by reducing movement in the treated area.  Furthermore, this reduction in movement increases the life of the filler by reducing the speed at which the filler is absorbed by the body.

Is the treatment safe?

Over 27 million patients around the world have used medical products containing Hyaluronic Acid.  Research studies have shown that adverse reactions from the use of Juvederm are very rare, and occur in less that 1 in every 2000 patients.  Reactions can include mild to moderate swelling and tenderness around the site of injections and can remain for up to two weeks.  When reactions do occur, they tend to develop either within a few days of treatment or after a delay of 2-4 weeks.  Hyaluronic Acid is a non-animal based product.  As a result there is no risk of transmitting disease or of causing an allergic reaction in patients with animal-based food sensitivities.

What are the contraindications for fillers?

Skinlogic believes in ensuring that all of our patients get the best possible results from their treatments.  An important part of our service is an initial consultation, which we use to assess the suitability of each patient for their desired treatment. Patients wishing to have dermal filler treatments who are affected by the following medical conditions or who use one of the medicines listed below will need to undergo a more detailed assessment of their suitability prior to the treatment:

  • Any infection that may affect the treatment area, systemic or local (including sinus or oral infections)
  • Diabetes or other actively-managed diseases
  • Lupus
  • Oral Herpes (cold sores)
  • Roaccutane use within the last 6 months
  • Connective tissue disorders
  • Problems with blood clotting

Where can dermal fillers be used in the face?

Juvederm facial fillers have a wide range of treatment which can make subtle enhancements to every area of the face. We will take a close look at our face and take the time to discuss what troubles you. We will recommend a treatment plan using formulations from the juvederm range, either singly or in combination to target your specific issues.

How does Dermal Fillers enhance your face?

Juvederm enhances your face in three main ways:

  • Revitalizes – Juvederm reduces or smooth lines, wrinkles and folds for a fresher brighter facial look.

As we age, our skin loses hyaluronic acid and fine lines start to appear. Some lines become wrinkles due to outside factors like sun exposure, diet and years of facial muscle movement. Fat loss and sagging may turn lines into folds. Common lines, wrinkle and folds are: lip lines (corners of the mouth and upper lip), crow’s feet around the eyes and glabella frown lines (between the eyes) as well as naso- labial folds (nose to mouth) and marionette lines (mouth to jaw line). Juvederm smooth these lines.

  • Lifts – Juvederm restores lost volume to cheeks and chin for a gently lifting effect

A young looking face has round contours, high cheekbones and a well-defined jawline. There are smooth curves from the cheeks to the edge of the nose, without hollows. Ageing causes the soft tissue of the face to lose volume. Skin also loses elasticity and the gravity takes hold. The skin starts to sag, pulling the features downwards. Juvederm replenishes lost skin volume to regain a youthful curve to the cheeks, making them higher and firmer.

Juvederm Voluma adds volume to areas which need a little more support or enhancement. It subtly reshapes the cheeks to make them high and firm. Restores facial volume. Recreates more youthful facial proportions. Smooths the jawline. Accentuate the curve of cheekbones. Replenishes moisture so skin regains natural elasticity and tone. Gives a gentle lifting effect without surgery.

Juvederm can also add definition to the mouth and the outline of the face. Redefines and restore natural looking contours to the chin. Restores lip fullness for subtle definition. Sooths away vertical lines at lip outline. Adds definition to lip border; Eases away droop at the lip corners. Adds fullness to restore youthful curves to the cheeks. Gives a thin well defined jawline.

  • Defines – Juvederm subtly reshapes and redefines lips and facial contours

As we age our lips lose volume, become thinner and the contours are less firm. The lip edges are broken up by fine vertical lines caused by pursing the lips.

Over time our mid face loses volume and the lower face begins to form jowls. The chin loses its firm shape. As our skin loses hyaluronic acid facial volume is lost and the youthful facial contours of our cheeks diminish.

Juvederm is used to define the lip shape, ease away lines around the mouth and add a youthful outline to the cheeks.

What to do before your treatment?

One week prior to your Juvederm injection, we advise you to avoid using alcohol, garlic, lidocaine, vit C and aspirin, or any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine for pain, swelling and or fever such as medicines containing diclofenac, mefenamic acid, indomethacin or ibuprofen – ask your doctor or pharmacist whether your medication includes any of these ingredients. Following these instructions will reduce the risk of bruising or bleeding at the point of injection. Avoid dental appointments 2 weeks prior and after your treatment. If this is our first visit, you will need to provide us with information on your medical history and any current problems, as well as details of any allergies you have or medication you are taking. There is no need for an allergy tests.

What to do after your treatment?

Because Juvederm injectable gel is a relatively simple, non-surgical treatment there is minimal recovery time. For the first 24 hours following treatment you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure and alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risk of temporary redness swelling and or itching.

No treatment can halt the ageing process, you will require top ups if you want to maintain the effect. We will advise you when you should reschedule another appointment.

During the Treatment

Before your treatment you will be provided with a detailed consent form. You will be asked to read and sign this prior to your having your treatment.

You will have plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you may still have regarding the treatment.

Your practitioner will evaluate your facial appearance and skin tone and examine the areas of your face to be augmented. Strategic points on your face may be marked as the appropriate injection sites for the filler.

The injection sites will be cleansed with an antibacterial agent.

Pain is prevented with an anesthetic ointment to numb the skin or injection of local anesthesia. Only mild discomfort will be felt and injections are usually easily tolerated.

Each injection usually takes only a few moments per site. The process of injecting, massaging, and evaluating the result are performed, and additional filler added as needed.

Depending on the number of areas to be treated, the whole process may be as short as 15 minutes, or as long as an hour.

Once the results are deemed satisfactory, any markings will be cleansed off.

You may be offered an ice pack to reduce swelling and alleviate discomfort. Although the area may feel a bit tender for a day or two, it is usually not painful enough to require any medication.

The final effect

As Juvederm is non-surgical, there is very little recovery time. You may well find that people comment on your refreshed bright look rather than pin-point the actual reason you look more radiant. This means that the results are subtle and you look your natural best. And when you know you look your best, it’s so much easier to radiate your natural inner confidence and shine in every aspect of your life.
